يمكن أن تكون حرفية (التحرك فعلياً) أو مجازية (الانسحاب من منصب أو نقاش). تستخدم غالباً في الكلام غير الرسمي. لا تخلط بينها وبين 'stand by' التي تعني الدعم أو الاستعداد.
