पानी की गहराई की माप या किसी विषय के बारे में अधिक जानकारी पाने के लिए की गई जांच, खासकर नाविक या विज्ञान में।

यह शब्द विशेष रूप से समुद्री या वैज्ञानिक संदर्भों में जल की गहराई की माप के लिए प्रयोग होता है लेकिन कभी-कभी आधिकारिक या राजनीतिक राय लेने के लिए भी। इसे बहुवचन में उपयोग करते हैं। 'Sound' (आवाज़) से अलग है।
