Definition

今まで隠していた本当の性格や気持ち、考えを明らかにすること。どちら側を支持しているか、はっきり示す時にも使う。

人が本音を隠さずに見せたときに使う表現です。良い意味にも悪い意味にもなります。「true colors」ともよく言います。
