Definition

ओब्लिएट एक गुप्त या छिपी हुई भूमिगत जेल होती है, जिसे अक्सर महलों में बनाया जाता था और इसमें केवल छत में बने दरवाजे से ही प्रवेश किया जा सकता है; इसका उद्देश्य लोगों को कैद करके भुला देना होता था।

Usage Notes (Hindi)

यह अत्यंत औपचारिक, साहित्यिक और ऐतिहासिक शब्द है, अधिकतर मध्ययुगीन महलों, साहित्य या कल्पना कथाओं में मिलता है। दैनिक बातचीत में इस्तेमाल नहीं होता। 'dungeon' से अलग है—oubliette में कैदी को भुला देना उद्देश्य है।
