Definition

誰かの発言を正確ではなく、間違えた形で伝えること。多くは無意識や誤解から起きる。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にメディアや報道などのフォーマルな場面で使う。'misinterpret'（意味を誤解する）や 'misrepresent'（事実を歪める）とは異なる。受動態の“misquoted”もよく出る。
