কিছু বলা বা বোঝাতে চাওয়ার অর্থ ভুলভাবে বোঝা বা ব্যাখ্যা করা। বিশেষত কারও কথার আসল মানে ভুলভাবে ধরলে।

আধুনিক এবং আনুষ্ঠানিক লেখালিখি বা বক্তব্যে বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়। সাধারণ 'misunderstand' এর চেয়ে বেশি নির্দিষ্ট অর্থ প্রকাশ করে; 'misconstrue' সাধারণত কারও কথা বা উদ্দেশ্য অস্বাভাবিকভাবে বা অপ্রত্যাশিতভাবে ভুল বোঝানোর কথা বোঝায়।
