不懲罰某人，或讓某人避免麻煩或責任；也可以指使某物（如槍或煙火）爆炸或發射。

'Let off' 是非正式表達，常用於有權力的人選擇不處罰時，常見於 'let off with a warning'（只警告）。也指釋放煙火或爆炸物。不要與 'let out'（釋放）混淆，意思不同。
