恋人や婚約者に突然別れを告げられたり、捨てられたりした人のことを表します。特に結婚直前など重要なときに使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

文学やニュースで使われるややフォーマルな表現です。'was jilted'のように受動態でよく使われ、突然や残酷に振られた場合に適しています。穏やかな別れには使いません。
