Definition

무기(특히 총)를 누군가 또는 무언가를 향해 갑자기 또는 공격적으로 쏘다. 주로 총기로 공격할 때 사용된다.

주로 뉴스, 군사, 범죄 상황에서 사용한다. 뒤에 대상이 자주 온다('fire into the crowd'). 사격 스포츠나 총 이외의 무기에는 잘 쓰지 않는다. 심각하고 폭력적인 어감이 있다.

The soldiers fired into the air to warn the crowd.

군인들은 군중을 경고하기 위해 공중에 **발포했다**.

The police fired into the building during the raid.

경찰은 급습 중에 건물에 **발포했다**.
