「Clung」は「cling」の過去形・過去分詞で、何かや誰かに強くしがみついたり、離れずにつかまったりすることです。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

感情的な執着や、強くものにしがみつく描写に使われます。「hope」に「clung to hope」のように使うことが多いです。日常的な「持つ」や「掴む」には使いません。
