호되게 혼내다호통치다

Definition

누군가가 실수하거나 잘못했을 때 심하게 꾸짖거나 혼내는 것.

주로 구어체이며, 상사나 부모님 등 권위자가 아랫사람이나 아이를 혼낼 때 많이 씀. 'tell off'보다 더 강한 표현. 실제 '씹다'와 무관함.

My teacher chewed out the class for being late.

선생님이 반이 늦게 와서 **호되게 혼내셨다**.

Dad chewed out my brother for breaking the window.

아빠가 창문을 깨트린 동생을 **호되게 혼냈다**.

The boss chewed out the team after the mistake.
