急成長都市とは、資源発見や新産業などの急な経済的成功によって急速に発展する都市や町のことです。

急成長都市は短期間で急に人口や経済が増えた街に使います。普通の大都市ではなく、経済的ブーム（ゴールドラッシュやIT産業など）が背景にある場合が多い言葉です。
