A veranda is a covered area along the outside of a house, often with a roof, where people sit or relax.
Usage & Nuances
'Veranda' is more common in British, Australian, and Indian English than in American English, where 'porch' is usually used. It often refers to a long, roofed platform, and is usually at the front or side of a house. Not to be confused with 'balcony', which is usually elevated and private.
