आमतौर पर उसके बाद वह चीज़ आती है जो आश्चर्य का कारण बनी: 'surprise someone with a gift'। मुख्यतः सकारात्मक संदर्भ में होता है। 'surprised by' (भावना) से न मिलाएँ।
