심하게 때리거나 맞는 것을 의미하며, 장난스럽게 때릴 때나 경기에서 크게 지는 상황에서도 쓰인다.

스코틀랜드와 아일랜드에서 주로 쓰이고, 농담이나 벌로 때릴 때 많이 씁니다. 경기에서 완패할 때도 사용할 수 있습니다. 'get a skelping'은 벌을 받다, 'give someone a skelping'은 벌을 주다.
