"return the favor" in Japanese
Definition
誰かに親切にしてもらった時に、その人に感謝の気持ちを込めて同じように親切なことをして返すこと。

カジュアルにもフォーマルにも使える表現で、親切や助けに感謝して「お返し」する場合に使います。嫌なことには使いません。
Examples
If someone helps you move, you can return the favor by helping them later.
誰かが引っ越しを手伝ってくれたら、後で自分もその人に**恩返しをする**ことができます。
I gave her a ride, and she said she would return the favor someday.
