증거 없이 어떤 사실을 미리 진실로 여기거나 그 사실을 바탕으로 생각이나 주장을 전개하는 것.

주로 공식적이거나 학술적, 철학적 맥락에서 사용된다. 'presuppose knowledge' 같은 표현에 쓰이며, 단순한 추측이 아니라 반드시 필요한 전제 조건을 의미한다.
