지도자나 왕족 등 중요한 인물의 시신을 공식 장소에서 장례 전 대중이 조문할 수 있도록 공개하는 것.

매우 공식적 표현으로, 국가 지도자나 유명 인사를 다룰 때 뉴스나 공식 발표에서 사용됨. 일반 사적인 장례식에는 쓰이지 않음.
