思いがけない場所や状況に結局はいること。しばしば計画せずにそうなる。

カジュアルな英語で（特に英国）、アメリカ英語では 'end up' の方が一般的です。'in' や 'at' などと合わせてよく使います。予想外やマイナスの結果に使うことが多いです。

He didn't study and landed up failing the exam.
