おりは飲み物の底に残る固まりや不要なもののこと。また、最も価値のないものや最低の人々を指すこともある。

「the dregs of society」は非常に否定的な表現。飲み物の時は普通「the dregs」と複数形を使う。古風な響きがある。

There are dregs left at the bottom of my coffee cup.
