区別（くべつ）違い

Definition

物事の特徴やカテゴリーなど、はっきりとした違いや対比を指します。二つ以上のものが異なる点を説明するときによく使われます。

「区別」は「違い」よりも改まった表現で、学術的・専門的な文脈で用いられます。「区別をつける」「微妙な区別」などの表現に使われます。日常の些細な違いにはあまり使いません。

There are important distinctions between cats and dogs.

猫と犬の間には重要な**区別**があります。
