人々の間で意見が分かれて争われている事柄や、誰のものか決まっていない領土などを指します。

「争われている」「係争中の」は文書やニュースなどのフォーマルな場で多用されます。「disputed territory」「disputed claim」など、対立や合意がない状況を表します。「controversial（論争の的）」ほど感情的ではありません。

The two countries fought over the disputed border.

両国は**争われている**国境をめぐって争った。
