不意を突く予期せず驚かせる

Definition

相手が準備できていないときや予想していないときに突然驚かせること。

フォーマル・インフォーマルどちらにも使える。受動態（例：『不意を突かれる』）でよく使う。状況や感情面の突然の驚きにも利用する。「take by surprise」と置き換え可能な場合が多い。

The loud noise caught me off guard.

大きな音に**不意を突かれた**。

The teacher's question caught him off guard.

先生の質問に**不意を突かれた**。

Sudden rain caught us off guard.

突然の雨に**不意を突かれました**。
