많이 버티다가 결국 상대의 요구를 받아들이거나 항복하는 것. 주로 압력이나 어려운 상황에서 사용됨.

격식 있고 문어체에서 주로 쓰임. 협상, 전쟁, 논쟁 등에서 오랜 저항 끝에 마지못해 항복하는 의미를 가짐. 보통 'to'와 함께 사용됨. 일상 대화에서는 그냥 'give in', 'surrender'가 적합.

After a long negotiation, the company finally capitulated to the workers' demands.
