To find or achieve something by chance, not through effort or planning.

Informal, mostly in American English. Used when good fortune or coincidence helps someone achieve something unexpectedly. Usually followed by an object ('luck into a job'). Similar but less formal than 'stumble upon'. Not commonly used in the UK.
