To physically come to rest on something (like 'the rain falls on the roof'), or for responsibility, blame, or work to be given to someone ('the job fell on me').

Often used for responsibility ('the task falls on you'), and for physical placement ('light falls on the table'). Can sound slightly formal when about responsibility. Not used with people as direct objects when physically falling (say 'fall onto someone').
