Colocar documentos em um sistema organizado, geralmente em pastas ou arquivos. Também, submeter formalmente um documento, muitas vezes a um tribunal ou órgão.

'Filing' é comum em ambientes de escritório e jurídicos. 'Filing a lawsuit' significa iniciar um processo. A palavra pode ser tanto arquivar quanto protocolar documentos. Não confundir com 'file' (o objeto) ou 'filling' (encher/recheio).
