Definition

チームやグループ、役などに入るためにオーディションや試験を受けること。

アメリカ英語でよく使われ、スポーツや演劇、音楽グループなどの場面で使います。「try out for the team」＝チームの選考に挑戦する、という意味です。『try out』（試す）と混同しないように。

I'm going to try out for the basketball team.
