ある金額や価値を他のものと相殺したり差し引いたりして、合計を減らすこと。会計や税金、費用やメリットの比較で使われる表現。

主に会計やビジネスなどフォーマルな場面で使う表現。「expenses set off against income」などが典型。日常会話ではあまり使わない。「offset」と混同に注意。
