상대방에게 공식적으로, 특히 군대처럼 손을 이마에 대는 등 경례하거나 경의를 표하는 것.

대부분 군대나 공식적인 상황에서 사용됨. '국기에 경례했다', '장교에게 거수경례했다' 같은 표현에서 많이 보임. 평범한 인사(손을 흔들다, 고개를 끄덕이다)와 구분해야 함.

The soldier saluted his captain.
