'Reticent' औपचारिक है और तब प्रयोग होता है जब कोई व्यक्ति अपने विचार या भावनाएँ ज़ाहिर करने में झिझकता है। अक्सर 'about' के साथ आता है (reticent about...)। इसे 'reluctant' (आम तौर पर हिचकिचाना) से न मिलाएँ।
