対立する者同士が和平や和解の条件を協議するために行う正式な会合。昔話や歴史物語によく登場する言葉です。

古風で文学的な言葉で、現代の日常会話ではまれ。歴史やファンタジー、法律的な文脈で使われる ('hold a parley', 'call for a parley')。通常の「話し合い」よりも格式があります。
