'old chestnut' ifadesi, sık sık tekrar edilen ve artık ilgi çekmeyen espri veya hikâyeler için alaycı ya da espirili biçimde kullanılır. 'That's an old chestnut!' demek, 'Bu çoktan bayatladı!' anlamına gelir.
