주로 공식적, 법적 상황에서 사용됨. 'hold someone responsible for...'와 같이 사용하며, 부정적인 결과에 대한 책임을 물을 때 많이 씀. 'for'를 써야 하며 'to'와 함께 쓰지 않음.
