Começar a estudar muito, normalmente para um exame ou teste importante. É uma forma informal de dizer 'estudar'.

Expressão informal usada entre amigos ou colegas. Nunca é literal, sempre significa estudar. Muito usada antes de exames: 'Tenho de hit the books hoje.' Não confundir com 'hit the sack' (ir dormir).
