誰かや何かを囲んで、動いたり逃げたりできなくすること。また、自由や行動を制限する意味でも使われる。

“Hem in” は、人や場所に対して物理的にも比喩的にも使われます。よく使う表現に “hemmed in by” や “feel hemmed in” があります。ややフォーマルまたは文学的で、日常会話では “trapped” や “boxed in” がよく使われます。
