상대가 확신이 없거나 곤란함을 느낄 때 ‘음’과 같은 소리로 머뭇거리며 말하는 것.

주로 'hem and haw'와 같은 표현으로 사용합니다. 일상적이고, 주저하거나 애매하게 말할 때 쓰입니다. 혼자 쓰이는 경우는 드뭅니다.

He kept hawing instead of giving a clear answer.
