Cortar algo em pedaços de forma grosseira, geralmente com uma ferramenta afiada, ou tossir forte como se estivesse expulsando algo da garganta.

Informal, e por vezes gráfica; pode se referir tanto a cortar em pedaços grosseiramente quanto a tossir expelindo catarro. Usada em contextos violentos ('hack up a body') ou médicos ('hack up phlegm'). Não confundir com 'hackear' (informática).
