अक्सर अनौपचारिक रूप में इस्तेमाल होता है। यह शाब्दिक अर्थ में तैरने के लिए और भावात्मक रूप में गप या सूचना के बिना स्रोत के फैलने के लिए प्रयोग होता है। अधिकतर 'rumors floating around' वाक्य में आता है।
