"famous last words" in Japanese
Definition
誰かが自信満々に失敗しないと言った直後に何か悪いことが起きそうなとき、皮肉やユーモアを込めて使う表現です。死ぬ前の本当の最後の言葉ではありません。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
「絶対失敗しない」など自信過剰な発言後に皮肉っぽく突っ込むときに使います。決して本当の「最後の言葉」ではありません。カジュアルな会話で自然です。

He said, "This is easy," but famous last words—he failed the test.
