경주나 경쟁에서 다른 사람을 앞지르며 선두에 서는 것. 누군가를 추월해 앞장설 때 주로 사용됨.

주로 스포츠 해설이나 경쟁 상황에서 사용되며 일상 대화에서는 드물다. 항상 누군가를 앞지른다는 의미다. 미국 영어에서는 'pull ahead'가 더 흔하다.

He started to draw ahead in the final lap of the race.
