Definition

पहले दिए गए आदेश को औपचारिक रूप से रद्द या बदल देना, सामान्यतः एक नया आदेश देकर जो पहले वाले के विपरीत हो।

यह शब्द औपचारिक है और मुख्यत: सैन्य, कानूनी या सरकारी संदर्भों में प्रयोग होता है। 'countermand an order' आम संयोजन है। आम बोलचाल में दुर्लभ। यह हर जगह 'cancel' के समानार्थी नहीं है; हमेशा किसी पूर्व आदेश को उलटने की बात करता है।
