누군가나 무엇을 존중할 가치가 없다고 생각하며 싫어하고 무시하는 강한 감정.

공식적이거나 강한 어감으로 사용하며, 'contempt for~'처럼 특정 대상에 대해 쓸 수 있다. '증오(hate)'보다 약하다. 법적 표현 'contempt of court'도 있다.
