어떤 사건이나 행동을 직접 목격하거나 관찰하는 것. 본 것에 대해 공식적으로 증언하는 경우에도 쓸 수 있다.

'witnessing a crime', 'witnessing history'처럼 중요한 사건이나 공식적 상황에서 많이 쓰임. 일반적으로 TV 보는 것처럼 평범한 활동에는 사용하지 않음.
