يستمر لمدة محدودة فقط وليس دائمًا. يُستخدم لوصف شيء موجود أو مستخدم أو فعّال في الوقت الحالي، لكنه سيتغير أو ينتهي لاحقًا.

هذه الكلمة شائعة جدًا في الإنجليزية اليومية والرسمية أيضًا، مثل: 'temporary job' و 'temporary solution' و 'temporary housing'. وغالبًا ما تأتي مقابل 'permanent'. صيغة الحال هي 'temporarily'. لا تخلط بينها وبين 'short'، فقد يكون الشيء مؤقتًا من دون أن يكون قصير المدة جدًا.
