種を土にまいて植物を育てること。また、考えや感情、問題を引き起こす場合にも使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

農業では「種をまく」という意味で使い、比喩的には「疑念をまく」「対立をまく」などフォーマルや文学的に使います。「sew（縫う）」と発音が同じですが意味が異なります。
