「rots」は主に食べ物や植物などが、細菌や時間によってゆっくり腐っていくことを表します。

主に食品や植物、木材など有機物に使います。「rots」は三人称単数・現在形です（例：The fruit rots fast）。比喩的に「希望が腐る」などにも使われます。「rots」と「rots away」は意味の違いに注意。
