自然に、例えば食べ物や木、植物などがゆっくりと分解・腐敗すること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に食べ物や木材、歯などの物理的な腐敗に使います。比喩的に、道徳や社会の堕落にも用いられる場合があります。「rot away」「rot in prison」「root rot」などもよく使われます。

Examples

If you leave the fruit outside, it will rot quickly.

果物を外に置いておくと、すぐに**腐って**しまいます。

Too much water can make the roots rot.
