'Riot'는 일반적으로 명사이지만 동사로도 사용됨('to riot'). 항상 집단 폭력을 뜻하며 단순히 시끄러운 상황이 아님. 'race riots', 'food riots', 'break out into riots' 등의 표현이 자주 쓰임. 'protest'보다 훨씬 심각하다.
