किसी बात के ख़िलाफ़ सार्वजनिक या ज़ोरदार तरीके से असहमति या आपत्ति जताना, अक्सर किसी अन्याय के विरोध में। यह किसी प्रदर्शन में भाग लेने का भी अर्थ रख सकता है।

Usage Notes (Hindi)

अधिकतर पब्लिक विरोध के लिए ('protested in the streets') लेकिन मौखिक विरोध के लिए भी ('protested his innocence') प्रयोग होता है। समाचार, औपचारिक व अनौपचारिक भाषा में आम है। आमतौर पर 'against', 'about' या सीधे विषय के साथ आता है। 'protect' से न मिलाएँ।
